Our Vision:

At the beginning of 2024, Jeremiah 29:4-14 had a significant message for the Body of Christ. This passage resonates deeply with many who are feeling dissatisfied, discouraged, and even considering significant life changes such as moving or changing jobs, particularly in the context of South Africa. However, the message from Jeremiah emphasizes the importance of recognizing that the Lord has placed us where we are for a reason, and until that changes, our focus should be on building a life, seeking the welfare of our cities and serving Him faithfully.

It serves as a poignant reminder not to be like Peter, who became overwhelmed by the storms around him and started sinking when he took his eyes off Jesus. Instead, the call is to remain faithful, keeping our focus firmly on our Saviour, and being thankful in our current circumstances. The fields are still ripe for harvest, and as the priesthood of all believers, there’s a profound opportunity to minister within our schools, workplaces, and businesses through a consistent and faithful witness to the greatness of God and His mercy on us. The core message of the cross remains unchanged: Jesus saves!

This year, the focus my focus is threefold. Firstly, consolidation, living in smaller town where there has been a lot of movement. Secondly, equipping believers is paramount; we as church leaders must prioritize preparing those who come to the church to effectively serve the Lord in their unique giftings. Thirdly, prayer. we must start and recognize that its more than just an add-on, but rather a vital component that has perhaps been overlooked amidst the busyness and distractions of life. We must tune into the heartbeat of the Father.

In essence, the call for believers in 2024 is to embrace their current circumstances with faithfulness and perseverance, recognizing the opportunities for ministry and service that surround them. By grounding themselves in the foundational truths of the gospel and prioritizing prayer, believers can navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life with a steadfast focus on their calling to glorify God and advance His kingdom.

Michael John Watson

Pastor

Michael’s journey began in the heart of the Free State in 1981, where he was born into a loving Christian family. Raised in an environment where faith was not just a tradition but a way of life, Michael was surrounded by the teachings of Christ from a young age. It was during his formative years that he first encountered the transformative power of God’s love.

At the age of 17, Michael’s faith took a significant turn during a life-changing experience at a Student Christian Association camp. It was there, that he had a personal encounter with the Lord. This encounter ignited a passion within him to pursue a deeper understanding of his faith and a desire to serve God wholeheartedly.

Following his newfound calling, Michael pursued his studies in Theology at the prestigious Bible Institute of South Africa in Kalk Bay, Cape Town. This academic journey not only deepened his understanding of Scripture but also equipped him with the necessary tools to effectively minister to others.

After completing his studies, Michael served as a youth pastor at Queenstown Baptist Church in 2004. During his time in this role, Michael poured his heart and soul into nurturing the spiritual growth of the younger generation, guiding them on their own journeys of faith.

In 2005 doors opened into the field of education, Michael broadened his sphere of influence beyond the church walls as he ventured into the field of education. It was during this period that he met Kirsty, and they got married in 2009. Together, they are blessed with five children: Dumisa, currently sharing knowledge in China as a teacher; Namhla, on the cusp of achieving her dream of becoming a chartered accountant; Caleb, currently in Grade 6; Alex, thriving in Grade 3; and Joseph started Grade 1 this year.

However, Michael’s calling to pastoral ministry remained steadfast, and in 2015, he answered the call to lead Queenstown Baptist Church as its pastor. This new chapter in his life marked a return to his roots in ministry, where he could fully devote himself to shepherding God’s flock and proclaiming the message of salvation to his congregation.

Through each step of his journey—from his upbringing in a Christian home to his formal education and pastoral ministry — Michael’s life has been a testament to God’s faithfulness and overwhelming grace. His commitment to serving the Lord and dedication to nurturing the spiritual growth of others continue to impact the lives of those around him, inspiring them to live out their faith with boldness and courage.
